Blackboard Issue Alert - 404 Errors in Microsoft Edge

Contributed by Samantha Houston and Jenn Ray, Learning Technology Administrators

Last week we brought an issue to your attention where users were getting 404 errors when clicking on some things in Blackboard while using Microsoft Edge. At that time, the suggested workaround was to switch from Edge to Chrome or Firefox. While we still currently recommend either Chrome or Firefox when working in Blackboard, another solution to this issue was brought to our attention by one of our amazing faculty! Following these steps should resolve the issue so that users can continue accessing Blackboard content through Edge.

  1. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the Edge browser, then click Downloads from the Menu.
  2. On the resulting menu, click the three dots icon again, then click Downloads Settings.
  3. On the Downloads settings page, if you see the dot is to the right on the option for "Open Office files in the browser, click it so that the dot is to the left (switched "off").

As always, if you have any questions or if you experience this issue in another browser, please contact the Support Center (281.283.2828) and a member of our team will be in touch to assist.
