Error Message When Sending a Message via Blackboard Email Tool

For some users, email sent via the Blackboard Email tool may result in an error message, “An error or warning occurred while sending this email. Some or all recipients may not receive the message.

Causes: 1. There is a missing email address or  2. an email address is rejected from the destination email system (i.e. gmail, yahoo, etc.). This is likely due to the email address being invalid or settings within the user’s email system.  Users with a valid email will receive communication sent via the Blackboard Email tool.

Troubleshooting: If there is an email address in the course that is NOT a UHCL email (i.e. gmail, yahoo, etc.), instructors can troubleshoot the problem email address by using the Email Tool and contacting each student one at a time to which student(s) generate the error message. Again, this is possibly due to the email address being invalid or settings within the user’s email system.
When an instructor gets this error, they should send an Announcement to the entire class asking to verify that their email addresses are correct at: My Blackboard > Settings > Personal Information > Edit Personal Information.

Official UHCL email addresses should be the primary email address used while enrolled.
